Francis J. McManus Jr., 89, of Milford, NH passed away peacefully at The Arbors at Bedford on July 17, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Boston MA, on August 20, 1935 to Francis Sr. and Margaret (Riley) McManus. He obtained a Bachelors and Masters Degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University. He lived in Framingham, MA before moving to New Hampshire. Francis worked for The Mitre Corporation in Bedford MA, as an Engineer and Associate Director for many years before retiring. He also worked at Sylvania for many years as a Systems Engineer and Manager.
Francis was handy by nature, with plumbing, working on cars and carpentry, building his own porch in Framingham, MA. He enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, which he was very good at; reading military history books and spy novels; and although he never won the NH lottery, he enjoyed playing Powerball and Mega Millions. He did however win the fundraising raffle for St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter in Madison, NJ two years in a row, and was excited beyond belief. Francis was an avid, lifelong Boston sports fan, frequently attending Red Sox and Celtics games. He also loved going to the Boston Symphony Orchestra and listening to classical music, especially Beethoven’s symphonies. Francis enjoyed golfing in his younger years. He enjoyed vacationing in Bermuda and in his retirement, he traveled extensively to Europe and US National Parks. Francis had a passion for dining and was a “regular” at his favorite restaurant, Bedford Village Inn. His grandchildren were always amazed at how much food their Grandfather could eat when they were out for dinner. Above all else, Francis loved spending time with his family; seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Francis is survived by his loving children; David McManus, and wife Nancy (Condon) of Milford, NH and Jean McManus of Bedford, NH; his grandchildren, Michael McManus and wife Olivia (Knowlton) of Manchester, NH, John McManus and wife Cayla (Johnson) of Leominster MA, and Kaitlyn (McManus) Aminu and husband Wajid of Milford, NH; his great grandchildren, Lucas and Levi McManus, and Jackson Aminu; his brother, Thomas of Hyde Park MA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
