Frank O. Buhl

October 1, 1932 — October 3, 2023

Manchester

Frank O. Buhl, 91, of Manchester, died peacefully October 3, 2023 after a period of declining health. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Irene (Pink) Buhl.

Born in New Holstein, WI on October 1, 1932, he was the son of Frank A. and Margaret (Salm) Buhl.  He earned a bachelor’s degree from Marquette University.

Frank’s Wisconsin career in accounting and banking brought him and his family to New Hampshire in 1980 where he was the President and CEO of First NH Bank for many years.  Upon retirement, Frank was very civic-minded and notably served on the boards of the Greater Manchester Development Corp, Catholic Medical Center, NH Food Bank, among others.  Frank and Irene were active members of the Manchester Country Club for many years.

Devoted to his Catholic faith, Frank attended daily mass and prayed the rosary daily.  Over the years in New Hampshire, he was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral, St. Elizabeth Seton, and St. Catherine of Siena.  Frank was a true gentleman, always had a smile for everyone, and his quiet generosity was a testament to his faith in action.   He was a model husband, dad, and Papa and will be greatly missed.

Frank was predeceased by his sisters, Isabel Winkle, Marcella Meyer, Viola Van Rooy, and Catherine Janty.

In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his children, Jane Dunn (Russ Danson) of Raymond, NH; Mary Ellen Bucknavage (Martin) of State College, PA; Mark Buhl (Kathy) of Boylston, MA; and John Buhl (Maria) of Wayne, PA;  grandchildren, Tricia (Brian) Cunniff, Nika (Matt) Bristol, Alex Bucknavage, Daniel Buhl, and Jacob Buhl; Great-grandchildren Emily and Luke Cunniff;  sisters, Dolores Peik and Sr. Lucille Buhl; many nephews, nieces and cousins.

The family is grateful for the loving and caring staff at Mt. Carmel as well as the VNA Hospice team.
