Frederick William "Bill" Danby, MD
May 10, 1943 - November 5, 2016
Eternally curious and generous physician, researcher, husband and father. He died of cancer. He passed being held by Lynne Margesson, MD, his wife and collaborator of 41 years, and his two daughters, Dawn and Claire Danby.
Dr. Danby was a celebrated dermatologist who practiced in Manchester for 19 years and in Kingston, Ontario, Canada for 24 years. In his offices, he treated his teams as family. He saw their potential, drew out their best work, and steered many towards more ambitious paths.
He was chair of the Division of Dermatology at Queen's University, and more recently taught at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He led numerous medical organizations in Canada and the United States, conducted 23 clinical trials and gave hundreds of lectures around the world. His colleagues and students celebrated his integrity, constant inquisitiveness and his innovative approaches to understanding illness and treating people.
He is survived by his wife and daughters; his granddaughters, Meridian and Jane; his brothers, Mark and John Danby; his nieces and nephews and their children.
A funeral ceremony was held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. An additional service will be held in Kingston Ontario on December 3rd.
