In Loving Memory of CPL George Bonenfant March 29, 1947 – May 25, 2025

It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, George Bonenfant, who left this world peacefully on May 25, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most.

George was more than a father or husband — he was our hero, our teacher, our biggest supporter, and without a doubt, the best dad/husband ever. He lived life to the fullest, with a steady heart, a quick wit, and a deep love for his family. A man of few words, George let his actions speak — and they always spoke of love, loyalty, and laughter.

Born March 29, 1947, in Newmarket, NH to John and Lillian (Homiak) Bonenfant, George grew up in Epping, NH. On July 28th 1966 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp LeJeune, and later deployed to DaNang in VietNam — a testament to his quiet courage and strong sense of duty.

After his service, George studied programming in Connecticut and began a long and successful career in technology. He worked at NH Insurance for 35 years, where he met the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Julie. He later worked at AIG and CGI, and even after retiring, stayed active by driving for FedEx and then Enterprise. Slowing down was never in his nature.

George was the kind of dad who always showed up early to every game, quick with a joke, and steady with support. He made sure we had what we needed — and plenty we didn’t. He never worried about appearances, only that everyone around him was having a great time. Fun, laughter, and love — that was his mission in life.

George was truly one-of-a-kind. A jokester and prankster until the very end, he had a way of making everyone feel at home. He was a big kid at heart who adored playing with his grandchildren and all kids. He was always ready to get on the floor, into the pool, or drive the boat to make someone laugh and have fun. His famous line around water — “Will you go swimming with me, or can I throw you in the lake?” — will live on forever.

George loved the little joys in life: card games, puzzles, bowling, casino trips, waterskiing and captaining his ski nautique. He helped Julie in the flower beds and found joy in every chore, as long as he was doing it with or for someone he loved. He was the number one lawn keeper.

Though our hearts ache with his absence, they are also full — with memories, gratitude, and the enduring warmth he gave so freely. George taught us not just how to live, but how to love — with generosity, humility, and joy. His legacy will live on in the stories we share, the lessons we pass down, and the love that continues to bind us together.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Bonenfant; daughters Christine and husband Craig Lopes, Kim and husband Vince Eugene, and son Brent and wife Angela Bonenfant. He was a beloved grandfather to Riley (Justin), Corey, Camden, and Conner and his sisters Shirley Bonenfant Keach, Joan Bonenfant Piecuch— each of whom carries the light of his love and laughter.

George is predeceased by his parents, John and Lillian Bonenfant; his sister Rose Bonenfant Hayes; brothers Norman and Donald Bonenfant; and sister Doris Bonenfant Mahon.

Our deepest thanks to ADAPT for providing George’s oxygen, and to the compassionate staff at MGH who cared for him in his final months.

We will miss your laugh, your stories, your quiet strength — and yes, even your scares. And don’t worry... we’ve got the lawn covered. We know you’ll be watching.
