George J. Dagenais, 82, of Manchester, died November 22, 2005, at the Elliot Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was born in Manchester, October 1, 1923, and was the son of Henry and Anna (LaRoche) Dagenais. He lived in Newport, NH for several years and had been a Manchester resident most of his life.
He served in the US Navy during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Mr. Dagenais owned and operated George's Bridge St. Texaco for several years. He later worked for Silver Brothers from 1952 to 1988.
He was a member and past president of the Bedford, NH Rotary Club, and a volunteer and past chairman of the NH Rotary Special Olympics swim competition. He was also and Easter Seal volunteer, a member of the American Legion Post 79, Sweeney Post, V.F.W. Post 9347, the Military Order of the Purple Heart #395, the Square Dance Allamande 8's and the Queen City Promenaders.
He was a member of St. Pius X Church, the St. Joseph Society, the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood Monastery, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
He founded the HI-HOPES Seniors of St. Pius X parish where he also entertained as a disc jockey and was known as "Sir George".
He was predeceased by a son, Wendell Descoteau.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Helen A. (Viger) Dagenais of Manchester; two sons, Rolland Descoteau and his wife Lily Deshauteurs of Long Island, NY, and Richard Dagenais of NJ; a daughter, Robyn Dagenais-Proto and her husband Benjamin of Stratford, CT; three grandchildren, Caroline Proto, Jeremy Proto, and Jeff Descoteau.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday November 26, 2005 at St. Pius X Church. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
