George E. Lagasse

George E. Lagasse, 93, of Manchester, died March 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Manchester on August 31, 1924, he was the son of Alphonse and Eugenie (Charest) Lagasse. He attended local schools in Manchester and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Essex, and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in action along with his shipmates. George worked for Associated Grocers for nearly 40 years before retiring.
George was a member of, and spent much time volunteering for Catholic War Veterans and St. Vincent de Paul. He was a very active parishioner of St. Marie Parish. He and his wife Jeanne enjoyed wintering in Florida. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Family includes his beloved wife of 68 years, Jeanne (Lacerte) Lagasse of Manchester; four daughters, Denise Schnaars and husband Bill of Bedford, Louise Fulling and husband Brian of Goffstown, Colette Gagnon and husband Ray of Merrimack, Susan Nallan and significant other Jeff White of Deerfield; one son Gerard Lagasse and wife Wendy of Goffstown; fourteen grandchildren, Matthew (Kathryn) Schnaars, Christopher (Abby) Schnaars, Gregory Schnaars, Andrew (Brittany) Schnaars, Amanda Methot, Army Capt. Adam Fulling, Scott (Stacey) Gagnon, Sarah (Timothy) Lewis, Peter Gagnon, Megan (Steve) Smith, Michael Nallan, Brendan Nallan, Anastasia (Eric) Forcier, and Meredith (Matt) Acker; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Jean-Paul Lagasse of FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Armand, and Fernand Lagasse; and one sister, Irene Goulet.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at St. Marie Church, 378 Notre Dame Ave., Manchester. Committal prayers with military honors followed in the mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: NH Catholic Charities, 215 Myrtle St., Manchester, NH 03104. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the staff of All American Assisted Living and St. Teresa Manor for the loving care and support that they provided to George.
