George F. Mercier

George F. Mercier, 90, of Auburn, died April 26, 2018, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Franklin on April 23, 1928, he was the son of Joseph and Yvonne (Miquelon) Mercier. George was a graduate of Franklin High School. In 1946 he enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1948. He then earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Frances of Xavier University and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ontario Veterinary College. George established Queen City Animal Hospital in 1959 in Manchester and dedicated nearly four decades of his life to the practice before retiring in 1995. George served as secretary/treasurer and as chairperson of the Board of Examiners for the State of NH Veterinary Medical Association and was President of the Association in 1965 and 1986.
George was very active within St. Peter Parish in Auburn. He was a long-time greeter and usher, taught CCD, was chairperson of the Liturgy Committee and served on the Pastoral Council. He was among the founding members of the Legion of 1000 men at the Precious Blood Monastery in Manchester. He also served on the committee for the Boy Scouts of America for twelve years. George had a passion for woodworking. He also enjoyed gardening, farming, and reading. He loved music, singing, ballroom dancing and could whistle every tune he knew. Above all, he will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
Family includes his beloved wife of 60 years, Suzanne D. (Barbeau) Mercier of Auburn; eight children, Catherine Laliberte of Auburn, Elizabeth Johnson and husband Dean of Boulder, CO, Laura Lambert and husband David of Auburn, Linda Bouchard and husband Ron of Auburn, Daniel Mercier of Auburn, Martha Tardiff and husband Scott of Auburn, David Mercier and wife Laurie of Auburn, and Julie Hall and husband Jim of Auburn; seventeen grandchildren, Cheryl, Patrick and wife Katie, Shawn, James and wife Molly, Ashley, Jaime, Kyle, Sara and husband Anton, L'Oreal, Michelle, Joseph, Aimee, Virginia, Glen, Sam, Colby, and Evie; one great grandson: Oliver; one sister, Joyce Allen and husband Huntley; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four siblings, Andrew, Gloria, Eileen and Joan.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. Peter Church, 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn. Burial followed in Auburn Village Cemetery.
