George Ellsworth Fifty

July 12, 1920 — June 7, 2016

George E. Fifty, Jr., 95, died unexpectedly on June 7, 2016 at Elliot Hospital.
He was born in Manchester on July 12, 1920, the son of George and Nellie (Malloy) Fifty, Sr.
He spent his early years in Manchester and graduated from Manchester Central High School. He served in the US Army during World War II, fighting in the Battle of Normandy, and was later honorably discharged. He also worked for many years as a Purchasing Agent at Grenier Airfield and later at the Veterans Hospital, where he retired, in Manchester.
George was a caring individual, working many years as a bingo volunteer at Blessed Sacrament Church and later as a part time custodial assistant. He enjoyed watching sports and attended many Red Sox games, as well as the Olympics. George was a communicant of St. Anthony's Parish and he loved his grandchildren, trying to help them as often as he could. He and his wife Helen enjoyed playing cards together, especially bridge and whist. They went camping in Maine each summer and enjoyed elder-hostel trips.
George was predeceased by his wife of over 66 years, Helen A. (Gordon) Fifty, who died in 2011; and by eight siblings.
Family members include two sons, William Fifty, and his wife Carmella, of Churchville, MD, and James Fifty and his wife Jean, of Manchester; a daughter, Kathy Hebert, and her husband Kenny, of Manchester; seven grandsons; and a brother, William Fifty, and wife Ann, of Manchester.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 172 Belmont St, Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 172 Belmont St, Manchester, NH 03103.
