George A. Lemire

George A. Lemire, 81, of Epsom, formerly of Manchester died February 22, 2008 in Lakeland, FL after a long illness.

He was born in Manchester on January 24, 1927, one of 12 children to Treffle and Marie (Roberge) Lemire. He lived in Manchester most of his life and had wintered in Lakeland for many years.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in Italy. He later served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Mr. Lemire was a master plumber who began this lifelong trade with his brother, Armand. He later retired from the City of Manchester where he worked at the wastewater treatment plant.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post 79, the Knights of Columbus, the Alpine Club and the Rimmon Club. He was a longtime communicant of the former St. George Church.

IN HIS LIFE: He enjoyed playing the piano, musicals and showtunes, and had studied with many area musicians. He also enjoyed playing pool with his friends and had practiced karate. He was an avid Red Sox fan and a positive thinker.

The family includes his beloved wife of 59 years, Madeleine (Boisvert) Lemire of Epsom; four children, Priscille Lemire of Epsom, George "Sonny" Lemire and his wife, Marie of Wells, ME, Ronald Lemire and his wife, Paula of Candia, and Muriel Stillman and her husband, Peter of Epsom; five grandchildren, Nancy Welsh, Karen Vachon, Heather Lemire, Sarah Geisser and Zachary Lemire; a sister, Georgette Boisvert of Lakeland, FL; nieces, nephews and one cousin. He was predeceased by a grandson, Benjamin Lemire.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday February 28, 2008 at St. Joseph Cathedral, corner of Pine and Lowell streets, Manchester. Committal prayers with military honors followed at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
