George B. McMennamin

George B. McMennamin, 80, of Goffstown, New Hampshire passed away on August 17, 2013. George was born on May 14, 1933 in Rumford, Maine, the son of Veronica Stack and James McMennamin. A 1951 graduate of Bellows Falls High School, George joined the Navy and attended sonar school in Key West, Florida.

On June 14, 1966, George married Becky Kohrt, who predeceased him in 2009. He worked a variety of hands on jobs while earning his Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering degree in 1970 from the University of Wisconsin. He became a certified and registered engineer in both Minnesota and New Hampshire.

After college, George joined American Consulting Services in Minnesota which specialized in the analysis of municipal sewer systems where he became the Vice President and General Manager. In 1974, George and two partners founded McMennamin & Associates, a New Hampshire engineering firm specializing in sewer system evaluations. The company was sold to Professional Services Group, Incorporated and George joined that firm as President. In December 1984, George joined Underwood Engineers as an owner and President until the end of 1993. From 1994 to 2004, George was employed by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. He was the Environmental Program Manager responsible for the state revolving loan program when he finally retired.

George enjoyed a variety of activities during his life which included boating, fishing, scuba diving, skiing, cooking, traveling, woodworking, reading, computers and state of the art engineering. He remained especially close to high school friends and family in Bellows Falls, Vermont and was a supporter of his alumni association.

Survivors include his nieces, Gayle LeGore of Vero Beach, FL and Karen Hormel of Putney, VT. George had one brother, James Alden, who predeceased him in 2011, and one son, Lee Gilman, who predeceased him in 1978.

Arrangements are being made by the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory of Manchester, NH and the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home of Bellows Falls, Vermont for a private ceremony at St. Charles cemetery.

George was fond of Simple Acts of Kindness. Donations may be made in his name to The New Hampshire Food Bank, Warm Up America or a similar charity of your choice.
