He was born in Bristol on December 10, 1926 to George and Dorothy (Littlefield) Preble. He lived in the Manchester area most of his life.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Tucson.
Dr. Preble graduated from Keene State College and earned his doctorate from Northern Illinois School of Optometry in Chicago. He had a private practice in optometry in Manchester, Hampton and Concord for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post 2, the Disabled American Veterans and the New Hampshire Optometric Association. He was a communicant of St. Catherine Church in Manchester.
The family includes his wife of 40 years, Jeanne S. (Provost) Preble of Goffstown; two sons, Christopher J. Preble of Goffstown and Michael Preble of Panama City Beach, FL; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Kenniston and Judy Pratt of Manchester; two brothers, Clinton Preble of Florida and Ronald Preble of Bristol; and nieces and nephews.
IN HIS LIFE: He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and gardening.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, December 23, 2010 at St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock streets, Manchester. Committal prayers followed at St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel, 448 Donald St., Bedford.
