Gerald T. Bachner

Captain Gerald T. Bachner, 80, of Bedford, died February 15, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Chicago, IL on January 11, 1936 to the late Louis and Catherine (O'Connell) Bachner. Jerry was educated in Chicago and was a graduate of St. Mary's College. He served in the US Air Force in the 371st Bomb Squadron of Strategic Air Command from 1959 to 1965 and was honorably discharged with rank of Captain. He worked as a pilot for American Airlines for 30 years before retiring in 1996.
Jerry enjoyed time spent on his sailboat and ice skating. He had a love for politics and was very dependent upon, and followed his life though his religion. He was very strong willed and was a man of his word. Jerry was many things to many people and was always a very good friend. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
The family includes his wife of 25 years, Patricia A. (Martin) Bachner of Bedford; one daughter, Christine Bachner and her partner Thomas Myers, Jr. of Seabrook; four sons, Kevin Bachner and wife Jana of Glen Head, NY, Brian Bachner of Port Washington, NY, and Daniel and Michael Bachner of Bedford; five grandchildren, Candice Castro, Mitchell LaPierre, Matthew and Brionna Myers of Seabrook, and Jackson Bachner of Glen Head, NY; and one sister, Rosemary Schmidt of Michigan. He was predeceased by one sister, Jeanne Polizzi; and four brothers, Robert, Donald, David, and James Bachner.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Meetinghouse Rd., Bedford. Committal prayers followed in the chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Sisters of the Precious Blood Monastery, 700 Bridge St., Manchester, NH 03104.
