Geraldine M. O'Connor, 81, lifelong resident of Manchester, died February 22, 2018 at a local healthcare facility surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Manchester on June 8, 1936, she was the daughter of Walter and Katherine (Kruczek) Swierz. She was educated in the local school system and graduated from St. Joseph High School for Girls, class of 1954. She then went to work for the New England Telephone Company until 1960, when she left to raise her four children. After 33 years at home, she began working again in 1993 in the business department of AutoFair Ford. She retired from AutoFair in 2003.
In November 1959, she married John M. O'Connor, the great love of her life. Together, they lived the American Dream, raising their family and later, traveling the world, visiting five different continents. Geraldine loved to bake and her bread and rolls won many blue ribbons at the annual Deerfield Fair. Friends and family alike called her blueberry pie the best in the world. Music brought her great joy and she was a long-time member of the St. Pius X Choir and the singing group Women Spirit Song.
Above all else, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished time spent with family.
She leaves her husband of 58 years, John M. O'Connor of Manchester; her children, Michael O'Connor and wife Sandra Ryan of La Grange Park, IL, Kathleen Jaworski and husband Peter of Manchester, Joseph O'Connor and wife Karen of Windham, and Maureen O'Connor and husband Lee LeBlanc of Middletown, CT; her granddaughters Meghan, Kathryn, Jillian, Elizabeth and Emily; one sister, Barbara Smith of Manchester; and her sister-in-law, Grail O'Connor of Manchester.
Geraldine's family gives special thanks to the nurses and staff in the Homestead Unit of Bedford Hills Center for the loving care and kindness they gave her these last 8 months.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, March 2, 2018 at St. Pius X Church, Candia Road. Urn burial will be in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the NH Alzheimer's Association, 166 S River Road, Suite 210, Bedford, NH 03110 or https://alz.org/manh.
