She was born in New Bedford, MA, July 27, 1929 to Adrien and Alida (Richard) Bourcier.
Sister Gertrude entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1949 and made her final profession in 1956. She served the Congregation for 62 years.
She earned her BA from Notre Dame College, Manchester and a MA from Sanford University, CT. Sister taught in elementary parochial schools under the direction of the Sisters of Holy Cross in St. Albans, VT; Springfield, Westport and Attleboro, MA; Manchester and Rochester, NH. Sister Gertrude also taught CCD in Attleboro, MA where she was principal.
Sister served her community as a superior in several Holy Cross Convents, namely in Westport and Attleboro, MA, Franklin, Pittsfield, and Nashua, NH.
Sister Gertrude was stationed at St. George manor in 1997 where she served as local bursar.
Due to declining health, Sister was transferred to Holy Cross Health Center in 2006.
Sisters will be remembered for her lovely smile and her kindness towards everyone who crossed her path.
Family members include her sister, Muriel Cournoyer of SC; 2 brothers, Richard Bourcier, of PA, Ernest Bourcier, of CT; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours at the St. George Manor Chapel, 357 Island Pond Rd. Manchester, NH will be Sunday from 4 to 7 o'clock. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 o'clock.
A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. George Chapel 357 Island Pond Rd., Monday at 10 o'clock.
Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery, South Beech St. Manchester.
