Gertrude A. Bourque, 101, of Manchester, died peacefully at her residence on November 1, 2015.

She was born in Manchester on January 13, 1914, the daughter of John and Alphonsine (Lessard) Charest. She attended school in Manchester and was a graduate of St. George's High School. Gertrude worked in the Manchester Mills after graduating from high school. She later devoted her life to raising her family.

Gertrude was an accomplished seamstress and was a synchronized swimming instructor. She enjoyed bowling, painting of landscapes and still life, and loved horseback riding with her husband. She loved her family and was the caregiver for all. Over all, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Alfred L. Bourque, in 2006.

Family members include her daughter, Anita Szelog and her husband Edward of Manchester; grandson Michael Szelog, wife Stefanie, and their two children, Bryanna and Christien, of Manchester; granddaughter Linda Levasseur, husband Michael, their two daughters, Jordan and Savannah, and their granddaughters Sophia and Alexia, of Manchester; grandson Gary E. Szelog, wife Linda, and their three children, Amelia, Gary J., and Zachary, of Manchester; two sisters, Rita Leblanc of Rockport, ME, and Mildred Lussier of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, November 6, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Belmont St., Manchester. Committal prayers followed in the Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
