She was born in Augusta, ME on September 1, 1923 to Albert and Aurore (Paquette) Lemieux. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1942, made her first profession in 1945 and her final profession in 1950.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, RI; master's degrees in English from Rivier College in Nashua, NH and in Theology from Fordham University in Bronx, NY; and a doctorate in English from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.
Sr. Gloria taught at elementary schools in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire before teaching for 31 years at Rivier College, of which 6 were as President and a member of the English Department. She was active in the RISE program at Rivier Univeristy, and was awarded Emerita status for her exemplary service in 2007.
She was a writer, researcher and translator for a major computer systems company and a European space agency. She also developed an education program for the Federal Aviation Administration in Boston. She retired in 2008.
The family includes a sister, Anne Stickney of Brewer, ME and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Claire Lemieux.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the chapel of St. Marie Residence, 495 Mammoth Rd., Manchester, NH. Burial will be in Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Hudson, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Presentation Retirement Fund, 495 Mammoth Rd., Manchester, NH 03104.
