Grace R. Montplaisir

Grace R. (Martel) Montplaisir, 99, of Manchester, NH died peacefully on April 8, 2023 with her family at her side.

Grace was born in Laconia to Irenee & Yvonne (Sevigny) Martel on February 17, 1924, and was the 2^nd of their eventual 14 children.  Grace married Emile H. Montplaisir in 1941 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage until his death in 2004.

Everyone will remember Grace for her prolific knitting, crocheting, sewing, and as an energetic worker.  Her favorite enjoyments were card-playing, reading, doing cross-word puzzles, and baking your favorite pie.  Grace continued to walk wherever she could, and this undoubtedly contributed to her longevity.

Grace is survived by her children: Helene Ferry, Claire Gardner & her husband Jim Mullane, Rita Marchese & her partner Shawn Smith, Rene Montplaisir & his wife Barbara Fraser, Donald Montplaisir & his wife Linda.  She also leaves 3 siblings: Donat Martel, Helene Stentiford, and Alice Parzek; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; and an extended network of nieces & nephews.  She was also predeceased by her daughter Jan Egan, a grandson, a great-grandson, and 10 siblings.

SERVICES:  There will be no calling hours.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday April 21^st at 9:30 am at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester.  Committal will follow at St. Augustin Cemetery on S. Beech St., Manchester.  Her nephew the Reverend Marcel Martel as celebrant.

The family extends a sincere thank you to the staff of Evergreen Place and to the Visiting Nurses Association of Southern New Hampshire for the excellent care Grace received.
