He was the first born of seven children born to Wilbur Grant Conley and Mary Sutherland Conley. He was born on June 4, 1924 in Dexter, Maine and grew up in Bar Harbor, where he graduated from the Bar Harbor High School in 1942.
Bill Joined the US Navy shortly after Pearl Harbor where he served in the Mediterranean and the Pacific theaters in World War II aboard the USS Stemble. After the war, he worked as the manager of the Franklin County Telephone Company out of Farmington, Maine until he was recalled to service in the Korean War. Following the Korean War, Bill worked in the Boston area as an engineer while going to night school. He graduated from the Lowell Institute School at MIT. Bill retired as a Senior Engineer after 28 years from Sanders Associates and lived in Manchester, NH since that time.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and the open outdoors. He especially liked being with family and friends at his camp on Squam River.
The family would like to thank the Staff at Catholic Medical Center and all at the Concord VNA Hospice House for their great care and compassion during his final weeks.
Bill married Elizabeth "Betty" Perry on June 14, 1947. They had three children, Merriam Fishman, and her husband Leon of Silver Springs, MD, Perry Conley of Amherst, MA and Grant G Conley and his wife Kathleen McCarthy of Allenstown, NH. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Betty, and three sisters. He also leaves two sisters, Anna Slack of High Point, NC and Doris Landry of Corpus Christi, TX and one brother, Arthur Conley of Boothbay, ME. There are also eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
The memorial service was held on Friday, June 14, 2013 in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, corner of North St, Manchester.
In lieu of flowers they ask the memorial contributions be made the Concord VNA Hospice House, 240 Pleasant St, Concord, NH 03301.
