Gretchen A. (O'Mara) Noonan, 98, of Franklin, died October 23, 2017 at the Peabody Home after a period of declining health.
Born in Franklin on January 30, 1919, she was the daughter of Albert and Loretta (Burke) O'Mara. She was educated in the Franklin schools and was a graduate of Plymouth State College.
She held teaching positions for 37 years in various New Hampshire, Pensacola, FL, and North Easton, MA schools. She retired from the Derry, NH school system in 1979.
Gretchen had lived in Washington, DC, Pensacola, FL, and North Easton, MA. She had resided in Londonderry for 30 years before moving to Manchester in 1986 and Bedford in 1998.
She was active for many years in square and round dance groups, both locally and nationally. She held life membership in the "Allemande 8", the "Heel and Toe" clubs, the Lloyd Shaw Foundation and the Square Dance Foundation of New England. Gretchen also held membership in the AARP as well as the NH Retired Teachers' Association.
She had been an active communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Bedford.
Her husband, Thomas A. Noonan predeceased her in 2001. She was also predeceased by her brother Lawrence O' Mara and sister M. Eunice O'Mara.
Survivors include her nieces, Kathleen Cuddy and MaryAnn O'Mara.
A service was held on Friday, October 27, 2017 in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
