After retiring from the Manchester Union Leader in 1990, she enjoyed volunteering at the Elliot Hospital, traveling, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was also a longtime communicant of St. Hedwig Roman Catholic Church and an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Helen was an avid reader, interested in politics and current events, and had a great respect and appreciation for nature. She valued independence, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
