Helen was predeceased by her husband, Augustine John McDonough, Esq., to whom she was married for fifty-six years, her brother George Carrier, Jr., and her parents, Ethel and George Carrier of Rye, NH. Helen was office manager and bookkeeper at her husband's law firm after her children were grown and until her husband's retirement. She was a gourmet cook and a charming hostess to her family, friends and her husband's colleagues at their home in Manchester. Helen took tremendous pride and joy in her home and her family, and she enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and was a master at crossword puzzles. She spent many summers at the family home in Rye Beach, NH and winters at their home in St. Petersburg Beach, FL. She was a member of St. Catherine Church, the Manchester Country Club and the Manchester Garden Club. Helen was fluent in French and traveled all over Europe with her husband. In later years, she was a tireless caregiver to her beloved husband and mother.
Helen is survived by her three children, David G. McDonough and his wife, Anne, of Moultonborough, NH, Brian T. McDonough, and Mary-Ellen Goodspeed and her husband, Scott, of North Hampton, NH; her grandchildren, Sarah Phillips and her husband, Kenneth, of Peterborough, NH, David G. McDonough, Jr. and his wife, Brooke, of Alexandria, VA, Shane McDonough of New York, NY, Kathleen Goodspeed and her husband, Eric Kostegan, of New York, NY and Brendan Goodspeed and his wife, Lindsay, of Portsmouth, NH, Evan McDonough and Ali McDonough; her great-granddaughters, Grace and Laura Phillips of Peterborough, NH and Nora and Eve McDonough of Alexandria, VA, and her great-grandson, Jack Goodspeed, of Portsmouth, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the chapel at Mt. Carmel Healthcare Center, 235 Myrtle St., Manchester, NH. Committal prayers followed in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
