Henry C Rainey, 87, passed away peacefully at his home with the support of his loving family and with his wife of 62 years by his side on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.
He was born on July 1, 1929 in Hanover, NH by his parents, Henry and Mary (Bowen) Rainey. He grew up in Canaan, NH, and later lived in Derry, NH and Lakeland, FL before moving to Manchester, NH 11 years ago.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Henrietta (Rainey) Laplante.
Henry was in the Korean War and served in the US Army. He had a strong work ethic. As a young man he chose not to further his education in order to help his family with their farm in Canaan. He worked at the local grocery store in Canaan as a stock boy and worked his way to Store Operation's Manager of First National Grocery Store chains in New England. He also worked at Central Paper for many years, before retiring to Florida.
Henry enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an accomplished golfer, with numerous hole in ones and loved his NY Giants football team.
Henry married his wife of 62 years, Jeanette (Beauregard) Rainey, and was very fortunate to live to see his family flourish. The family includes two children, Gary Rainey and his wife, Helen, of Manchester, Linda Rainey and her husband, Brian Phelps, of Nashua; three grandchildren, Ashley Tinkham, Corey Flewelling and Samuel Rainey and three great grandchildren, Charlotte, Caroline and Jack Tinkham.
The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice of Manchester, NH for their loving care and kindness to our family during this time.
Thank you for being such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and loving friend to all who had the privilege of knowing you. We love you and you will be missed by all.
SERVICES: Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice, 1070 Holt Ave., Suite 1400, Manchester, NH 03109. Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester is assisting the family with arrangements.
