Honorable Robert L. Hermann, 86, retired Federal Administrative Law Judge, of Raymond, NH and Ormond Beach, FL, formally of Manchester, NH and No. Andover, MA died peacefully December 17, 2011 at his Florida residence.
He was born in Melrose, MA on October 21, 1925, the son of Frederick H. and Ida (Lambert) Hermann. He was educated in Melrose, MA, attended Harvard University, and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Suffolk University and his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk Law School in 1953.
During World War II he served in the US Army Air Transport Command in the China, Burma and India Front (CBI)
Judge Hermann was Assistant Attorney General from 1963-1970 for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts serving under Eliot Richardson and Edward Brooke.
Prior to retirement as a Federal Administrative Law Judge, he was Chief Justice in Manchester, NH for 20 years.
He served as President of the National Association of Administrative Law Judges and was on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Law and Medicine.
He was a former director of the Lawrence Junior Chamber of Commerce; organizer and chairman of the Greater Lawrence Young Republican Club; member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also held membership in the Elks and the German American Society and was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and Lawrence Bar Association.
Robert's greatest love of all was his family.
As he was an avid traveler, his wife, children and grandchildren joyously accompanied him on his various trips throughout the US and Europe. Each family member will forever be enriched by the memories of the fun and love that they shared on these trips.
Above all else, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished time spent with his family.
Family members include his wife of 65 years Kathleen (McMullen) Hermann of Ormond Beach, FL; one son, Robert L. Hermann Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Lee, NH; one daughter, Karen Towey and her husband Kenneth of Epsom, NH; four grandchildren, Robert B. Hermann, Matthew Hermann, Sarah Young, and Stephanie Gagnon; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Thelin of Iowa; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Lambert Funeral Home chapel, 1799 Elm Street, Manchester. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St, Manchester, NH 03101 or to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall St, Suite 4, Manchester, NH 03101.
