Ida P. Sarazen

February 19, 1911 — August 4, 2006

Ida Philamene Root Sarazen, 95, died August 4, 2006, during a poignant moment of prayer at Villacrest Nursing Home in Manchester, NH after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born on February 19, 1911 in Royalton, Vermont, the daughter of Mary Bush and Wilmot Root.

Ida settled primarily in Syracuse, NY and later in Fayetteville, NY to start her family. Ida was well known for the great energy in which she embraced life and the tremendous pleasure she took in what she called the "simple things". Ida moved to New Hampshire upon the birth of her granddaughter Alexandra P. Sarazen. Becoming a grandmother at the age of 82, Ida believed her greatest adventures were yet to come as she anticipated the joys of experiencing the world through her granddaughter's eyes. Everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Ida will surely celebrate her passing as she lived a rich and fulfilling life.

Ida's husband James Floyd passed away in 1998 followed by their only child, J. Stephen Sarazen in 1999.

Ida is survived by her granddaughter, Alexandra and her daughter-in-law, Anna Maenhout-Sarazen of Manchester, NH.

No formal services will be held in New Hampshire. A family graveside service will be held at the White Chapel Cemetery in Dewitt, NY in the fall where her ashes will be laid to rest along those of her mother and husband.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Vermont and New Hampshire Chapter, 10 Ferry St., suite 42B, Concord, NH 03301.

Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, NH is assisting with arrangements.
