Ira A. "Jack" Royer, 85, of Manchester, died April 15, 2008, at his residence after a period of declining health.

He was born in Newport, NH October 23, 1922 and was the son of Ira and Lena (Garceau) Royer. He had been a Manchester resident most of his life.

He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II.

Jack was a sheet metal worker, business agent and financial secretary for Local 297 for 50 years.

He served on the Manchester Commission for the Elderly for 17 years. He also served on the Weston Tower Committee and was the mayor's representative during the building of the William Cashin Senior Center. He received keys to the city from three different mayors.

A longtime member of the Alpine Club, he was a member of the club's drum & bugle corps, snowshoe club, and had been it's sports director. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War's, Post 8214, and was a longtime communicant of St. Francis Church.

Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, woodworker, and excelled at playing softball.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Rachel M. (Faucher) Royer of Manchester; two sons, Dr. Ronald I. Royer and his wife, Linda, of Northwood, and David J. Royer and his wife, Lisa, of Manchester; two grandchildren, Marc Royer and his wife, Melissa, and Steven Royer and his wife, Amy; two step grandchildren, Andrew Dubisz and Caitlin Dubisz; two great grandchildren, Reese and Rachel Royer; nieces & nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday April 19, 2008 in St. Francis Church, Litchfield. Burial, with military honors, followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Manchester.
