She was born on September 25, 1927, in Berlin, NH the daughter of the late Avila and Caroline (Rheaume) Comtois. She entered the Congregation of the Presentation of Mary in Hudson, NH on July 25, 1945. She pronounced her Temporary Vows on February 2, 1948 and Final Vows on August 15, 1953.
She received her bachelor's degree in education from Providence College in Providence, RI.
Sister Irene ministered as a dedicated teacher in elementary parochial schools of Berlin, NH and Marieville, Phenix, and Coventry, RI. She also served as principal and local superior at St. Joseph and Guardian Angels Schools in Berlin before her retirement in 2000 to St. Joseph Residence.
She will be remembered as a woman of gentle and loving spirit.
Family members include her brother, Raoul Comtois of Montreal; her sister, Sr. Marguerite-Marie, o.s.u. of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Sr. St-Aimee, pm.
The funeral Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, August 30, 2010 in the Resurrection Chapel of St. Marie Residence. Burial followed in Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Hudson.
