Irene B. Hughes

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on May 11, 1924 to Charles and Sophie (Grasky) Bobrowsky.

In her early years, she worked for Sunshine Biscuit Company in New York, NY. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was also active at St. Theresa Church in Briarcliff Manor, NY.

Irene enjoyed entertaining and was an avid quilter. She had also volunteered at her children's schools.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin G. Hughes Jr.; her daughter, Kathleen Hughes Long and six siblings.

The family includes three children, Edwin G. Hughes III of Manchester, Joan Evans and her husband, Dave, of Burke, VA and Margaret Blundon and her husband, Tom, of Niantic, CT; seven grandchildren, Travis Long, Jessica Wester, Kristine Long, Kelley Long, Kari Evans, Shane Donohue and Brett Evans; a great grandchild, August Wester; a sister, Eleanor Kozak of Levittown, NY and a goddaughter, Diane Miller.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. Peter Church, 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn. Committal prayers took place on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Middletown State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT.
