Sister Irene St. Jean, C.S.C., a member of the Sisters of Holy Cross, died November 6, 2004 in Brandon, FL.

A native of Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of George and Cecile (Rousseau) St. Jean. She entered the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1956 in Manchester and made her final profession in 1963. In addition to a bachelor's degree in religious studies, she earned a B.A. in elementary education, and master's degrees in elementary education, psychology, guidance/counseling and educational administration and supervision.

Sister Irene ministered the Catholic school and parishes in New England until 1977, when she came to Nativity Catholic School in Brandon where she served as principal for more than 25 years.

She was chosen to participate three times in the Principals' Forum sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) in Washington, DC. She participated in 1996, and had been on the board of the North Adams, MA Mental Health Association for some years.

Family members include two nieces, Donna Brown and Linda Royer; Two great-nephews and a great-niece.

Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 7pm at Sisters of Holy Cross Chapel, St. George Manor, 357 Island Pond Road. A prayer service will be held at 7pm.

A funeral mass was celebrated Friday November 12, 2004 at the chapel. Burial followed in St. Augustin Cemetery.
