She was born in Manchester on September 7, 1916, the daughter of Emile and Victoria (Desaulniers) Houle. She was educated in the local school system.
She had worked as a hair stylist for her entire career and prior to retirement had owned and operated Houle's Beauty Salon in Manchester for many years.
She was a daily communicant of St. Marie Church and a member of the parish's St. Anne Sodality and Charismatic Group.
Irene loved to cook, make crafts, and tend to her garden.
Her husband Gilbert H. Langelier died in 2005.
Members of her family include one daughter, Yvonne McAllister of Weare; one son, Denis Langelier of Manchester; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Houle of Bedford; one sister, Claire Duhaime of Hooksett; nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in St. Marie Church, 378 Notre Dame Ave. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd, Manchester.
