Sister Irene Richer, 79, of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Manchester, NH, died March 2, 2004, at Catholic Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Born May 16, 1924, in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of Edouard and Evangeline (Boisvert) Richer. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1942, made her first Profession in 1945, and her final Profession in 1950. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Providence College and did post graduate work in art.
Sister Irene taught elementary school levels in both Rhode Island and New Hampshire. She was principal at St. Joseph School in Woonsocket, R.I. She also taught religious education for nine years. She worked as secretary in the education department at the NH Diocesan Office and Rivier College. In these last years, to the present, she was receptionist at the Provincial House of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Sister Irene was a gifted artist and embellished many services with her artistic ability.
Family members include three sisters, Marguerite Tellier, Helene Dionne, both of Manchester, NH and Sister Germaine Richer, MSOLA of Maryland; a brother, Hector Richer of Manchester, NH; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Emile Richer, Alfred Richer, and Rev. Maurice Richer.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday March 5, 2004 in the Resurrection Chapel, St. Marie Residence, 495 Mammoth Rd., Manchester, NH. Burial followed in Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Hudson, NH.
