Isabel Card, 95, of Bedford and Hampton, died November 24, 2021 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Manchester on August 19, 1926, she was the youngest of eleven children born to Martin and Maryanna (Bara) Legenc.
Isabel was a graduate of Central High School and began her career at New England Telephone where she advanced to Supervisor of Long Distance Operators. After marrying her husband, Albert, she began her life as an U.S. Air Force officer's wife, traveling the world and living in the South Pacific and Europe. Upon returning stateside, they settled in Bedford where Isabel raised her two children and was active in the community; regularly working the voting polls and enjoying her Bedford Garden Club membership.
Isabel was devoted to her faith and an active member of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Manchester. She served as a Director and Vice President of the Parish Committee, President of the Maria Konopnicka Society, and Financial Secretary for the Women's Society for the Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. She also enjoyed teaching the youth of the parish how to make "pysanki", Polish Easter eggs, so they could continue this ethnic tradition.
Isabel was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress and an incredible gardener. Her green thumb was legendary among her family and friends and many came to her for advice. She loved to travel and especially liked to spend time in her home by the ocean. She was a lifelong learner who always embraced new ideas and technologies. Strong, smart and open-minded, she was her family's hero. Her family was the center of her world and her grandchildren were especially close to her heart. She will be greatly missed and held in their hearts forever.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Albert M. Card, in 2008, and ten Legenc siblings: Aloysius, Joseph, John, Stanley, Theodore, Chester, Wanda, Jennie, Amelia, and Helen.
Family members include her daughter, Kathy Card of Bedford and her husband Larry Gagnon; a son, Christopher Card of Hampton; a granddaughter, Hannah Gagnon and a grandson, Max Gagnon, both of Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
