Jacob S. Friedman, 81, of Manchester died May 1, 2002 at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester after a sudden illness.

Born in New York, NY on January 11, 1921, he was the son of Benjamin and Tillie (Epstein) Friedman. He lived most of his life in Briarcliff Manor, NY before moving to New Hampshire four years ago.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Friedman worked as a controller for several companies in the New York City area.

He was an avid stamp collector, a lover of fine food and a frequent traveler. He and his wife had visited France 25 times during their marriage.

He enjoyed volunteer work at Catholic Medical Center and time shared with his family.

The family includes his wife of 56 years, Blanche (Alpert) Friedman of Manchester; a son, Lawrence S. Friedman of Greenfield, MA; a daughter, Ellen Friedman of Manchester; four grandchildren, Rachel , Celia , Molly and Sam, all of Manchester; a sister in law, Marie Alpert of Briarcliff Manor, NY.

A memorial service was Friday May 3,2002 in Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack St., Suite 1, Manchester 03101.
