James J. "Grumps" Hawes, 64, of Manchester died December 17, 2001 in his residence after a brief illness.
Born in Wilmington, DE on November 21, 1937, he was the son of John E. and Eileen (Scanlon) Hawes. He has lived in Manchester many years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963.
Mr. Hawes worked at Tru-Serv in Manchester for 27 years. He was an avid fan of Nascar racing.
The family includes his wife of 41 years, Ellen (Spratt) Hawes of Manchester; three sons, James M. Hawes of Derry, John T. Hawes of Hooksett and Richard J. Hawes of Manchester; two daughters, Joanne E. Baron and Susan M. Barker both of Manchester; eight grandchildren; his mother of Lansdale, PA; a sister, Eileen Joanisse of Oak Hill, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were December 19, 2001 in Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated December 20, 2001 in St. Therese Church, corner of Calef Rd. and Mitchell St., Manchester. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford.
