James M. Makris, 72, of Manchester, died April 15, 2023 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home after a period of declining health.
He was born in Manchester on April 28, 1950 to Socrates and Claire (Lesmerises) Makris. He served in the U.S. Navy on the CV-67 JF Kennedy and was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
James was a physical education teacher at the Youth Development Center and Mt. Zion Christian School. Known as Coach Mak, he was at football coach at Merrimack High School and Central High School. He also coached the Manchester Police baseball team at West Little League for 37 years. He loved watching kids play any sports and watching the Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins. He also loved going to the beach and lake, spending time with his grandchildren and going on trips with his wife.
He was predeceased by his parents and two siblings, Danny Makris and Leslie Makris.
James is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lynn L. (Plamondon) Makris of Manchester; two children, James P. Makris and his wife, Aline, of Manchester and Nicole Makris of New York; two step-children, Stephanie Caron and her husband, Jay and Brandon Bernier; seven grandchildren, Emily, RJ, Violet, Anthony, Vincent, Isaac and Madison; two sisters, Elizabeth Martini and her husband, Marc, of Virginia and Carolyn Colpitts of Sugar Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at One Church, (formerly Manchester Christian Church), 1308 Wellington Rd., Manchester on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 6 p.m. Private interment will be at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at a later date.
