Manchester

Janet E. Chaney, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at RiverWoods Manor, Manchester, NH.

Born in Richmond Hill, Long Island, New York, Janet was the oldest of two daughters of Elmer and Mabel (Sandstrom) Searby. She graduated from Jamaica High School, completing her education six months early to eagerly join the work force. Janet began her working career at Woolworth’s alongside her sister. And at age 17, she began working for International General Electric on 42nd Street in New York City as an administrative assistant which she truly enjoyed for over 19 years.

Janet was blessed with the musical gift of playing the piano; she could hear a song and then play it. Janet loved to entertain friends and family with her sing-a-longs throughout the years. She volunteered her time to lift the spirits of others by playing the piano regularly at many events and institutions. Janet also adored square dancing and traveling with her husband, Jim. He held his pilot's license and together they flew to many destinations. She had a great love for animals, especially dogs. Janet found beauty at the ocean and in having flower gardens around her homes.

Janet was predeceased by her loving husband, James E. Chaney on April 26, 2022.

Janet is lovingly remembered by her sister, Carol Barth and her late husband, Richard Barth, Sr. of Hudson, MA, former longtime residents of Amherst, NH. Janet and Carol had a particularly close relationship, sharing their thoughts with each other on a daily basis. Janet was an integral presence in the lives of her niece, Janet Maxwell and her husband, James of Boxborough, MA; nephews, Richard Barth and his wife, Kathleen of Hanover, NH and Stephen Barth and his wife, Marian of North Easton, MA and nine great-nieces and great-nephews. Her love for her family was always evident and cherished.

SERVICES: Private burial is at Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua.
