January 21, 1932 — September 8, 2023

Manchester

On September 8, 2023, Joan Claire (Hale) Camann passed away quietly at RiverWoods, Manchester, NH. Joan was born in Walpole, MA on January 21, 1932. An honor’s graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing, as a young adult, Joan worked as a Registered Nurse for Massachusetts General Hospital.

At age 25, Joan married, moved to Manchester and raised her family. She was active in her community, volunteering with many organizations including League of Women Voters, Federated Arts, Manchester Family Planning, Webster School PTA, and Friends of Stark Park.

Joan also enjoyed travel and art. She volunteered at the Currier Museum of Art and was a regular subscriber to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She visited many European countries, declaring Italy as her favorite.

Joan will be remembered fondly by family and friends as being a wonderful host, particularly for her baking and cooking talents. Her grandchildren especially loved her peanut butter/chocolate swirl and warm chocolate chip cookies. Joan's cookies were admired as miniature works of art, decorated to celebrate the seasons and holidays.

Joan is survived by her sister, Elinor Kelliher of Walpole, MA; her four children: Gregory (Ann) of Bedford, NH, Judith of Seattle, WA, Carrie (Chris Pye) of Hereford, England, and Diane (Hans Rolla) of Seattle.  In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren (Nathan, Andrew, Thomas, Jenalysse, Alice and Delaney), four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cornelius E. and Zita F. (Beaulieu) Hale and brother, Norman F. Hale.

We will miss her deeply and cherish her memory.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Lodge at RiverWoods and Brookhaven Hospice for their caring support.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joan's memory may be made to Families in Transition at https://www.fitnh.org/
