John H. Barnes, 89, of Manchester, NH died December 7, 2020 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH after a brief illness.
He was born in Boston, MA on August 11, 1931 to John J. and Janetta (Howatt) Barnes. He graduated from Boston Technical High School and lived in Norwood, MA for many years before moving to New Hampshire 20 years ago. In his younger years, as a member of the Dorchester "Wildcats", he was affectionately known as "Barnesey."
During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years.
John retired as a foreman with the New England Telephone Company where he worked for 37 years. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Norwood.
He was predeceased by his parents and three siblings, Marjorie Luti, Pauline Griffin and Mary Piccirilli.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen J. (McNally) Barnes of Manchester, NH; four sons, Stephen M. Barnes and his wife, Deborah, of Plymouth, MA, John R. Barnes and his wife, Rossana, of Virginia Beach, VA, Daniel J. Barnes and his wife, Nancy, of Bedford, MA and Paul E. Barnes of Attleboro, MA; eight grandchildren, Adam, Nichole, Amanda, Allison, Ryan, Meghan, Lauren and Christian; two siblings, Charles Barnes and his wife, Eunice, of Amherst, NH and Margaret Donahue of Quincy, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday (12/12) at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker St., Manchester, NH. Burial will be private.
