John S. Beserdetsky, Sr., 94, of Hooksett, died July 15, 2016 at Catholic Medical Center of natural causes.
He was born in New York, NY on July 14, 1922 to Frank and Bridget (Przystas) Beserdetsky. He grew up in New Bedford, MA and lived in Hooksett for many years.
During World War II and the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy. Pearl Harbor started his life as a sailor. In 1942 he became a Minute Man in the Lexington Volunteers of the Navy followed by tours of duty aboard the ships known as the "Unholy Four" in the Pacific fleet. Former Massachusetts governor, Maurice J. Tobin presented him with a testimonial for Faithful Performance of Duties in WWII.
John attended Coyne Electric and Technical School in Boston, MA and the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, WI. He was a licensed electrician and also worked as a radio and TV repair technician at Kaffel Radio & TV. He then joined United Cable Company, when cable TV was born, and worked for them for 25 years until his retirement.
John was a member of the Polish American Vets WWII, Inc. in New Bedford, MA, American Legion Sweeney Post 2 in Manchester, the Navy League of the U.S. and was a life member of the U.S.S. President Adams Reunion Association.
He enjoyed collecting coins and submitting "letters to the editor" in the Union Leader.
He was predeceased by a sister, Janet Kaffel.
The family includes his wife of 59 years, Sophie (Pieton) Beserdetsky of Hooksett; six children, John S. Beserdetsky, Jr. of Manchester, Michael Beserdetsky and Richard Beserdetsky both of Hooksett, Joann M. Ramezanzadeh and her husband, Majid, of Seattle, WA, Stephen Beserdetsky of Hooksett and Maryann Mathews and her husband, Charlie, of Hopkinton; six grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Raheem, Imaan, Jasmine and James; a great grandchild, Harlee; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at St. Hedwig Church, corner of Beech and Orange streets, Manchester. Committal prayers with military honors followed at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
