Born in Manchester, he was the son of Stephen and Aphrodite (Goulas) Gikas and was a lifelong resident of the city.
During World War II, he served in the US Army. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Haritou) Gikas and brothers Christos and James Gikas.
Family members include a son Stephen J. Gikas and wife Brenda of Manchester; two daughters, Linda A. Gikas of Washington, DC and Dorothea M. Probasco of Carmel, CA; one brother, Stellios "Ted" Gikas and wife Mary of Poway, CA; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Friday, May 22, 2015 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St, Manchester. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
