John D. Ine, 96, of Manchester, died September 17, 2023 at Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord after a brief period of declining health.
He was born in Manchester on June 15, 1927 to Mansour and Mary (Sayfie) Ine. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester. Upon his graduation from Manchester High School Central, he served in the U.S Army during World War II.
During his career, John was most proud of his time spent as a toll attendant for the State of New Hampshire (approximately 30 years until his retirement in 2006). Previous to joining the State, he was with J.P. Manning Company in Manchester. John was a communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where he was a member of the Order of AHEPA and the NOA Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Sweeney Post in Manchester.
He enjoyed his trips to Foxwoods Casino (Wheel of Fortune slot machines), candlepin bowling, taking his family to the Backroom Restaurant (broiled haddock with extra lemon and to see his ‘sister’ Toula), Braves baseball, and music from Frank Sinatra and The Rat Pack.
He was predeceased by his parents and three siblings, Rose Alma Kaled, George Ine and Madeline Saba.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joan (Stone) Ine of Manchester; three children, Cheryl Ann Gilbert and her husband, Douglas, of Goffstown, Marylee “Mare” Ine and her partner, Michael Carter, of Vermont and John “Jay” Ine II of Manchester; his three grandchildren, Amanda Torre and her husband, Robert, Ashley McCassin and her husband, Mark, and Thomas John French and his wife, Ashley; his three great grandchildren, Brayden, Rory Joan and Marley; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved great granddogs, Levi and Sweet Pea.
The family would like to thank the Granite VNA Hospice House nurses and caregivers who provided wonderful care and showed great affection to John during his brief stay with them.
