John F. Looney

John F. Looney, 76, of Manchester, died April 4, 2005 at the Catholic Medical Center.

He was born on September 25, 1928, the son of George B. and Agnes C. (Griffin) Looney. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School Central, Class of 1946. He received his Bachelor's Degree from St. Anselm College in 1951 and his Master's Degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1957. He was awarded a PhD in Philosophy from Lehigh University in 1961. In addition, he was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Looney was a History and Social Studies professor at St. Anselm College for 25 years. He had previously taught at St. Peter College in Jersey City, New Jersey for 7 years.

He was a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood.

Members of his family include his sister, Alice Looney of Manchester; a niece, Alice Kowynia R.N. of Manchester; a brother, Denis J. Looney of Bedford; nephews and nieces.

A memorial mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster St. and Hemlock St., on Friday April 8, 2005. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the League of 1000 Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge St, Manchester, NH 03104.
