John Joseph McCormack, 90, of Manchester died September 24, 2011 at the Elliot Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in West Rutland, VT on September 25, 1921, the son of Michael and Ada (Winship) McCormack. He was educated in the West Rutland school system and graduated from West Rutland High School, where he excelled in basketball and football and was remembered as a star left-handed pitcher. He earned his bachelor's degree from Clarkson College in Potsdam, NY.

After high school, John enlisted in the US Coast Guard. He was a WWII veteran, having served four years in the Coast Guard prior to his honorable discharge in 1946.

John was self-employed having operated his own CPA firm in Manchester for a number of years. Previously, he had worked as an accountant with Bigelow & Company.

He was a longtime communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church. He was a member of the Elks Club in Rutland, VT; the American Legion in Manchester, NH and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Above all else, John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his family.

Family members include his wife of 65 years, Helen (Galick) McCormack of Manchester; his children, Timothy McCormack and wife Marcia of Concord, NH, Mary McCormack and husband Steven Rosenthal of Scarsdale, NY, James McCormack and wife Anastasia of Lake Mary, FL, Susan McCormack and husband R. Kendall Marra of Wellesley, MA; six grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Claudia, John Joseph, Dilen, and Ronly; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by his three older brothers, Patrick, James, and Martin McCormack.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, October 1, 2011 in St. Catherine of Siena Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock Streets. Committal prayers followed in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Catherine of Siena Church, 207 Hemlock St, Manchester, NH 03104.
