John F. Mills, 77, of Manchester, died June 5, 2002, at Mount Carmel Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Manchester, June 19, 1924, he was the son of Thomas and Mary (Boylan) Mills. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He worked as a sales representative for Herff-Jones Co. for several years.Along with his brother Jim, he owned and operated the Irish American Club from 1975 to 1980. He retired from Catholic Medical Center where he worked 10 years as a security officer.
Mr. Mills served as an Alderman from Ward 7 from January of 1952 to December 1953. In addition, he served as a Fire Commissioner for the city of Manchester from May 1962 to May 1965.
He was a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood. In addition he was a member of the Henry J. Sweeney Post.
He was predeceased by a son, Thomas F. Mills, in 2000.
Family members include his wife, Muriel (Lawlor) Mills of Manchester; 2 grandchildren, Patrick Mills and Erin Mills, both of Manchester; a sister, Mrs. John (Helen) Young of Manchester; a niece, Jane Young of Manchester.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday June 8, 2002 in St. Catherine Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
