He was born in Manchester on April 28, 1924 to Patrick and Delia (Reddington) Monahan. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and at Omaha Beach. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Monahan worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ann (Fox) Monahan and by a son, Thomas P. Monahan.
The family includes three children, Joanne Gonzales and her husband, Timothy, Steven Monahan and David Monahan, who was his caregiver for the last 10 years, all of Manchester; three grandchildren, Scott Gonzales, Kris Monahan and Josh Monahan; a great grandson, Tyler Gonzales; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at St. Pius X Church, Manchester. Committal prayers followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford.
