He was born in Manchester on July 17, 1918, the son of John F. and Margaret (Connor) Moran. John attended St. Agnes Institute, class of 1932, and Manchester High School Central, class of 1936. He was a veteran of WWII, having served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946.
Prior to retirement in 1983, John had worked for the US Postal Service for 40 years.
He was a former member of the Holy Name Society and had served as an usher for both Blessed Sacrament Parish and St. Anne Parish. He held membership in the American Legion, Henry J. Sweeney Post #2, the Post Office American Workers Union, the Knights of Columbus Council #92, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Rev. William J. Shanahan Div. 1. He also had served on the board for St. Anne Parish's 150th Anniversary.
He will be remembered for his keen intellect, generosity towards others, and warm smile. He was a devoted family man who helped care for his parents and always put the needs of others before his own.
Family members include his wife of 35 years, Catherine (Monaghan) Moran of Manchester; many nephews, nieces, and cousins residing in Manchester, Ireland, and New Jersey. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine M. Moran and a cousin, Martin P. Moran.
The funeral Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday January 17, 2008 in St. Catherine of Siena Church. Burial with military honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
