John F. Woodlock

January 9, 1925 — December 6, 2006

John F. Woodlock Sr., 81, of Manchester, died December 6, 2006 at Catholic Medical Center.

He was born in Chelsea MA, on January 9, 1925, and was the son of James and Margaret (Cronin) Woodlock.

Drafted in 1943, he served as a frogman with the underwater navel combat demolition unit 57 of the United States Navy. He participated in the Pacific Theater as well as the invasion of Southern France, Operation Dragoon. Mr. Woodlock was a recipient of the Navy WWII Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon, the European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon 1 Star, and the Asiatic- Pacific Ribbon. John was very proud of his induction into the Naval Combat Demolition Unit 57's Navy Seal Museum in Fort Pierce, FL. He was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Woodlock was employed at the Manchester Union Leader for 25years, retiring in 1986.

Family members include his wife of 60 years, Marie Patricia (Gear) Woodlock, of Manchester; 2 daughters, Maureen Woodlock of FL, Laurielee Roy, of NH; 3 sons, John Woodlock Jr., of Manchester, Richard Woodlock, of New Boston, James Woodlock, of NH; 5 grandchildren, Todd Carlino, Eric Carlino, Gabrielle Roy, Alexandra Roy, Thomas Roy; several brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son Thomas Woodlock in 1970.

A Mass of Christian was celebrated Monday December 11, 2006 in St. Pius X Church, Candia Rd. Manchester.

Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Donald St. Bedford.
