Joseph A. Levasseur, 81, of Manchester, died on January 31, 2016 at Villa Crest Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Manchester on April 24, 1934, the son of Alphonse and Irene (Plantier) Levasseur. He was a graduate of St. Marie's High School and later went on to earn his engineering degree. He served in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong residence of Manchester.
Joseph sponsored eight seminaries to become priests. He was always giving of his time to multiple charities and the less fortunate, including the Boy Scouts, St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic War Veterans, Copper Cannon, Richeleau Club, and Pine Haven Boy's Center. Joseph loved spending time with his family, wether at his summer home (camp), skiing at Cannon, or snow birding in Florida. He was a jack of all trades, always building things, and loved electronics. Over all, he will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, companion, and friend.
Family members include one daughter, Lesa Levasseur of Manchester, and Kelly Britton of Manchester; one son, Denis Levasseur and wife Chantal of Pembroke; four grandchildren, Joshua, Melissa, Jessica, and Sarah; two great grandchildren Jameson, and Raelyn; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Levasseur of Manchester, and long time companion, Rachel L'Heureux of MA. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Jeannette (LeBlanc) Levasseur, in 2007; and two sons, Marc and Paul Levasseur.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, February 5, 2016 at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester. Committal prayers followed in the chapel at St. Augustin Cemetery, S.
