He was born in Clinton, MA on August 29, 1925 to John and Rosella (Manning) Gebhardt. He lived in Wayland, MA and Melvin Village many years before moving to Bedford eight years ago.
During World War II he served in the US Navy in the South Pacific.
Mr. Gebhardt worked as an industrial painter with John W. Egan Company in Newton, MA for many years.
The family includes his wife of 63 years, Brenda M. (Farrenkopf) Gebhardt of Bedford; two children, Christine Kelley and her husband, Michael, of Hollis, and Jay Gebhardt Jr. and his wife, Elise, of Natick, MA; five grandchildren, Melissa Kelley, Elizabeth Johnson and her husband, Matthew, Brendan Kelley, Karl Gebhardt and Christopher Gebhardt; two great grandchildren, Connor and Kaelee Johnson; a sister, Margaret Baird and her husband, Alan, of Clinton, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, John, Francis, Raymond and Carroll Gebhardt.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, December 17, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Rd., Bedford. Burial at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen will be private.

Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester assisted the family with arrangements.
