Joseph H. Hayes, 84, of Manchester, passed away on August 12, 2016 at his home with his family by his side after a long period of declining health.
He was born in Allenstown on August 9, 1932 to Arthur J. and Josephine (Fields) Hayes. He was one of 14 children and grew up in Hooksett. He then lived in Manchester for most of his life.
He graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1951, then served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a submariner.
Joseph worked for the construction company F.P. Connor & Son in Nashua for many years. He began as an apprentice plasterer and worked his way through the ranks to vice president of the company. He later worked for Hitchcock Clinic in Bedford for 20 years until retiring at age 80 due to ill health.
Joe loved his family more than life itself and fought to the end to remain with them.
The family includes his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara J. (Adams) Hayes of Manchester; two daughters, Cathy E. Hayes of Seabrook and Nancy E. (Hayes) Ringland and her husband, David, of Pembroke; four grandchildren, Meghan A. (Getchell) Cummings and her husband, Matthew, Paige K. Getchell, Psyd and her fiancé, Patrick Flanagan, Lauren E. Ringland and her boyfriend, Jesse Voss and Cady H. Ringland; five siblings, Christina, Agnes, Julie, Virginia and Dan; and nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There were no calling hours or services. Interment with military honors was at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
