Joseph Thomas Murphy

He was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on April 1, 1931, the son of the late James F. and Margaret E. (Bulman) Murphy.

Joe graduated from Boston College High School in 1949 and served in the United States Navy on the destroyer USS Larson from 1950 to 1956. Joe worked as an office manager in Quincy, Attleboro, and Worcester, MA for John Hancock Insurance until his retirement in 1985. Joe and Barbara lived in Palmetto, FL for over 20 years until their recent move to Nashua.

Joe was a lifelong Red Sox fan and enjoyed the occasional martini.

Joe married Barbara C. (Driscoll) Murphy on January 23, 1955 and together they had 7 children.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents, his sister Frances (Murphy) Appleton and his brother Fr. James F. Murphy.

In addition to his wife Barbara, Joe is survived by son James Murphy of Brockton, MA, and daughters Theresa Landers and John Laramee of Lowell, MA; Ann Marie and Paul Hickey of Dover, MA; Barbara White of Millis, MA; Kathleen Gonzalez of Alhambra, CA; Margaret and Stephen Graveline of Litchfield, NH; Joanne Murphy of Asbury, NJ; Joe is also survived by grandchildren Michael, Jeffrey, Julia, Brendan, Claire, Connor, Meghan, Joe, Emily, Katelyn, James, Brittany, Joseph, Dylan, Jacob, Sean, Andrew, Katrina, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Matthew, Kyle, and Ian and great-granddaughters Kayla and Sophia.

A Mass of Catholic burial was celebrated on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Francis Church, 9 Francis Way, Litchfield. Burial with military honors took place on Monday, January 13, 2014 in The New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, Joe's family is asking for donations to Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Merrimack, NH.
